Dates: 4 October 2017
Objectives: To create a space for integration and promotion of the culture of emigrants, enhancing diversity and developing the understanding of the other with an attitude of openness and dialogue.
Human Library : The Living Library is a tool that seeks to challenge prejudice and discrimination. It works just like a normal library: visitors can browse the catalogue for the available titles, choose the book they want to read, and borrow it for a limited period of time. After reading, they return the book to the library and, if they want, borrow another. The only difference is that in the Living Library, books are people, and reading consists of a conversation.
Once they have made their choice, Reader and Book will sit down for a conversation lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. During that conversation prejudice is challenged directly through the Book’s experience of prejudice, or indirectly through meaningful interaction with a stranger.
